"RYUUZAKI" (L - Death Note)
[From here.]

They reached the next room, but before the brief nausea and disorientation passed, before L had the chance to register anything at all about his surroundings, the night ended.

Taura wrenched open the door to the stairs and flung herself up them, three at a time. It felt like a lifetime since she'd gone up to the second floor this way, but it also felt like progress.

No one else seemed to have the same idea. Or they were just slower than she was.

There was absolutely no one on the second floor. Taura let herself shiver; fear sharpened her senses past needler-dart and towards friendly-fire. This would be the perfect place for an ambush, but worse would be doing it herself. She took a deep breath and plunged onwards.

There were soft sounds in the dark. An overactive imagination, or monsters, stirring in the dark? Taura bared her blunted fangs. Or, she thought, just the sounds of people walking on the floor above.

She swung the flashlight over the doors ringing the balcony. The meeting rooms were on this side, if her (photographic) memory was correct, although the map she had hadn't bothered numbering them. She ran to the first door, and it opened easily. An odd, familiar light spilled out. It was the same as the thing she and Rita had ended up on, on the third floor. Which made this exactly the room she was looking for.

The teleport pad had been shoved in a corner of the room, out of place in the backwards technology of this place. Taura didn't trust it. She wasn't a natural pilot -- going through space in anything other than the normal progression hurt to think about, and her stomach agreed. This was even stranger, and she eyed the glowing machine with suspicion.

It wasn't like she had a choice, really. Or, to be precise, she had had one, and she'd made it. She was going into the trap with her eyes open...and her weapons drawn. She took stunner in one hand and throwing star in the other, and stepped up into a low crouch on the platform.

The world went dark, and the room was empty.
